Divisive and the Wrong Priority +
Politicians in City Hall are dividing San Francisco and taking away our rights. Instead of working for affordability, they are prioritizing a lifetime term limits ban. They would ban leaders like Jerry Brown, who served as Governor in the 1970's and then returned after a lifetime of experience to serve California again. It's divisive and the wrong priority.
Solution Looking for a Problem +
They call it "closing a loophole." That's rubbish. Only one San Francisco leader has ever returned to serve again. As Governor Brown says, "it is rare for an elected official to serve, leave office, pursue other work, and then decide to run again." We shouldn't gut the San Francisco Charter for a "loophole" that has occurred exactly once.
New and Young Leaders Are Already Emerging +
In 2024, we elected a new Mayor and 4 of 6 elected Supervisors had never held office. Voters are already making change happen, and it should be voters – not City Hall incumbent politicians – who decide who serves as our leaders.
Extreme and Anti-Democratic +
71% of the most populous American cities with term limits don't have lifetime bans. In California, just 2 cities – both in deep red, Republican counties – have a lifetime ban. That's because a lifetime ban is both extreme and anti-democratic.
